Snowflake Challenge: Day 12

Fandom Snowflake Challenge banner

Day 12

What makes you fannish? And by that we mean, what is it about a tv show/movie/book/band/podcast/etc that takes you from, "Yeah, I like that," to "I need MOAR!!!" Is it a character? A plotline? The pretty? Subtext that’s just screaming to be acknowledged?

In your own space, tell us what it is that gets you to cross that line into fandom. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

For me, it starts with the world building, usually. The premise, the world, how deep is it, how far does it draw me in. In truth, I think the world of Pern was truly my first fandom, for all that I've never written or played in it. I imagined so many stories, and told my brother so many stories. The world is rich and vibrant and so full of the best of everything.

And Harry Potter. The world with so much left in it to play with. So much fun left to have!

The characters, of course, are the next big thing. But honestly I think they sort of go hand in hand with the world building most of the time.

For a TV show or movie, it's got to be a combination of those things as well, I think.
