So, we all love fandom, right?

I know that especially in the last year or so, a lot of us have stuck our toes into other fandoms. I've been doing this for years, if not writing things, reading them (mostly because triskellion finds the most interesting things). Other fandoms can be great and interesting: Star Trek Reboot, Sherlock, and now Game of Thrones seems to be gaining speed (I'm rereading the first book so I can read the second).

But have you all ever come across a fandom that made your jaw drop? That makes you go really?! Are you serious?!!!

I used to think that I would respect almost any fandom. And then I met this girl awhile back in my writer's group, and now I find myself a bit gobsmacked. The fandom she writes, you ask?

Kung Fu Panda fanfiction.

Is it so wrong to facepalm and groan at this? It's just... wow. I'm sorry. I have trouble respecting the fandom. I mean, Pokemon is one thing--the age group that writes that is age appropriate, so far as I can tell. But a early twenty-something girl. I just. Comprehension eludes me. The thing is, she is a good writer, as far as I can tell--still needs a bit of work, but good--and from that it's less than half a step away into original fiction, especially incorporating mythology as she does.

So Kung Fu Panda. Really. I just have no idea how to deal with this...

Have you ever had a similar instance?
